India is a place of pervasive and sensual spirituality, inseparable from the many religions and culture of her varied people. It’s a seductive place, sublime and considered home to one of the worlds’ oldest civilizations. Southern India is a lush, green paradise, full of paddies, palm trees and the surreal calm of rural existence. But it is also a place enriched with unrivaled, architectural antiquities like the awe-inspiring UNESCO World Heritage Temples of Mahabalipuram, Srirangam, Brihadeeswarar, and the great Hindu pilgrimage temple of Meenakshi in Madurai. Our journey traverses the majestic Western Ghats which are home to some of the finest spice and tea plantations in the world. Descending into the state of Kerala, we luxuriate in the soothing backwaters and Ayurvedic spas of Kumarakom and Cochin. We continue to the Victorian jewel of Bombay, or Mumbai, a place of chaos and calm and the undisputed culture capital of the country. Then on to Northern India beginning in Varanasi, a spiritual and soulful city situated on the sacred Ganges River. Continue through colorful Rajasthan with visits to the unimaginable Taj Mahal in Agra, the resplendent City Palace and Amber Fort in the Pink City of Jaipur, and the magnificent sites in the great capital of Delhi. From desert camels and turbaned elders, to holy cows and snake charmers, this luxurious rural and urban journey of India’s north and south will be one of lasting memories, and one not to be missed. |
